After a lecture, how long does it take for you and your study group to find a place to study? Do you usually end up in the middle of a messy corridor? Let's try something else, because at the right place you can study more efficiently.
In order to be effective you must give yourself a chance to concentrate, without distractions. If you've ever tried to study in front of a TV or screen, you probably noticed that your task could take the whole evening (when you could actually have been done after only half an hour of focused studying).
So avoid studying in places with a lot of noise and movement around you, find a peaceful spot. Also take the opportunity to put the mobile phone out of sight, in silent mode.
To save time, compared to always having to look for a new place each time, it is a good idea to get your own study place, a place where you always study.
Having a specific study location also helps automate your studying and will saves you energy for other things. A nice bonus effect is that your subconscious mind will start to associate your chosen place with studying and thus it will be easier for you to quickly get into a good flow. For the same reason, it is also good to avoid places where you are already doing other activities (the couch, the bed, etc.).
"With your own study place, you don't even have to think about where to sit anymore, you go there and you'll automatically begin studying. It's a piece of cake!"
It is an advantage to study at campus/school since it is easier to create a good study routine there. It's a bit like going to a job. You work at work and are free on your free time.
But where? Look around in odd places and see if you can find a quiet spot which few people know about. Try to find a nice place with a view or some greens around, as it will make you feel good.
The advantage of studying in unusual places is that you often get to keep the spot for yourself, it's always ready for you. But it might want to have a backup-spot anyhow, just in case, so it's a no-brainer where to study even if it's crowded. Or at least know a place where you can always find free places, such as the library.
If it is not possible to find a quiet place, it can help to use headphones, to shut out some of the noise. Also choose instrumental songs, to not get distracted by lyrics.
It is often beneficial to study in a group, at least occasionally, where you can discuss your thoughts with like-minded people and help each other out with assignments. However, it is important that you sit with someone who has a similar level of ambition as you, so that you don't waste too much time or distract each other.
